The Grind in Review: 2009

2009 has been an enourmous year for Tru Grind. The label has made their mark in the independent music arena with numerous projects. We present the year in review for 2009.


JANUARY:


-With recording finalized in late 2008. Tru Grind's second compiltion project was finally finished. THE COLLECTION (2004-2008) featured songs from past, present, and future. The project contained classic tracks from Charlie Y Charlie, Chilo, and Syke; but also contained unreleased tracks from alumni Tru Grind member: Santos. The CD also held brand new tracks, as well as Charlie Y Charlie's new single OH NO.

First Hellafied Flow Review

Indy Glory Magazine in Washington DC has provided the world with their personal view of Shystah Sinnah's Hellafied Flow. Check out the initial review.


Hellafied Flow, the debut release from the artist Shystah Sinnah, was released on October 31, 2009, on the independent label; Tru Grind Music Group, LLC. Taking his name from a past version of his childhood nickname (according to a statement on one of his online videos) the music of this East-Coast feel outfit is steeped deeply in the Hip-Hop based mainly from his bilingual talents. Despite the fact that artists like Tony Touch, Fat Joe, NORE, and Big Pun easily come to mind upon hearing him, the pure east-coast grit and raw power exerted is genuine and natural to this seasoned veteran.

Recorded live in the studio with impressive mastering techniques, Hellafied Flow is 12 east coast influenced hard driving and thunderously funky songs. The powerhouse production team is made up of Carlos Lopez (Syke da Magician, Tru Grind Music), and Ricardo Rios (Armakahn, La Eminencia Records). Known for their unique approach to the mixing, and also for tasteful vocal tone arraigning that’s sonically rich and full, the levels are often subtle and modest yet perfectly suited to each song.

Although I sometimes dislike comparing a current artist to main-stream performers, as it sometimes puts them in a light of being imitators or unoriginal, the fact that the music of Hellafied Flow is drenched neck deep in rock and hard-core hiphop holds more of a pleasant significance than anything else. Originality is far from lacking in Shystah’s music, especially in his lyrical style, a technique that's never excessive or predictable. And the arrangements are diverse and exciting. It's "throwback" music to a different era for sure, but it's a welcomed approach to independent hip-hop that weighs heavily on a predilection for style, volume, and tone.

Hellafied Flow Cover Art Revealed!!!

Tru Grind has unveiled Shystah Sinnah's cover art for his debut album, Hellafied Flow. They have also stated on their website that they will be distributing a limited amount of hard copies. Shystah Sinnah's fans have been anxiously waiting for the release of Hellafied Flow on 10.31.2009. In anticipation for his debut Tru Grind has officially started taking pre-orders for the CD. They have stated that they will ship the CD directly to you.

The Expansion Season 3 Preview

THE EXPANSION is back, and this year its different. For the past 2 seasons THE EXPANSION has been updating us with Tru Grind's movement in the East coast. We've followed Charlie Y Charlie during their move from the pacific to the mainland, and seen their grind evolve into what it is today. We've also been introduced to Sonny, and Shystah Sinnah.

IN the past THE EXPANSION has been know to feature numerous skits, and even funny moments. THis year Tru Grind has decided to approach the season on a more serious level. First off, Sequined Films has replaced AmptWorldWide production association, and implements a whole new modern aspect in play. Below are some exclusive screen shots from Season 3.


Right off the bat, we notice a cleaner Tru Grind introduction than in the previous seasons.


Sequined Films is providing this season's graphics. This Season's intro contains a comic book like theme.




Tru Grind's newest member, "Jon Murray" has now been added to the cast.


The 3rd Season kicks off with Tru Grind introducing Jon Murray.


Rare performance footage of Charlie Y Charlie is used to create a brief feature of their single, "OH NO".




For the first time ever, The Expansion is now listing credits at the end.

It is apparent that this season's episodes are shorter. Tru Grind has decided that by making the episodes shorter, they can maintain audience attention considerably. At this moment, Tru Grind has not determined a release date for season 3...but expect ir shortly.

Many have seen pics of Syke's studio in Virgnia and asked if he could share his MJ collection. Being an avid MJ fan, Syke has been reluctant to disassemble his setup, but after several requests he's finally given in.

Shystah Sinnah Project in the works!!

The wait will soon be over!!! David Diaz aka Shystah Sinnah is currently in motion with his new project.



Plans are in stone for an extensive couple of days session in Virginia. Tentatively, the project will contain collabs with Tru Grind's new artist Jon Murray. After 10 years since their first collaboration, Bai B Blu will potentially be featured on his project. Set to be completed in September 2009, the release date will be announced soon after.



Last year Shystah colaborated for the first time with Tru Grind CEO, "Chilo" in THE COLLECTION, with rave reviews.



Public response majority raised questions on a highly requested solo project. Collaborations also included Sonny, and Syke which will be proving production for the highly anticipated release.
